My wife and I found this place by reading the reviews,
and it was excellent. The location was perfect. Walking
distance to all of Monterey,
and only a few minutes from Carmel and Point Lobos.
The Inn was wonderful and food and service were both
superb.

The setting is stunning- beautiful views of the bay.
I never used my car for the 4 days I was there. You
can walk to the Aquarium, downtown, the waterfront
for kayaking, fishing, great restuarants etc. The
host and staff were fabulous We requested a tour of
the Inn and the antique car collection-very interesting.
We loved the personal attention that is lacking in
many b and b's. Rooms beautifully decorated. The evening
complimentary evening cocktail party had plenty of
delicious offerings. We can't wait to return.

This 1890s Victorian, converted into a Mediterranean-style
villa, is conveniently located between the Monterey
Bay Aquarium and Point Pinos Lighthouse, next to Cannery
Row, and is within walking distance of Fisherman's
Wharf. Each charming guest room is uniquely decorated,
and many offer marvelous views, as do the breakfast
room and parlor. There is a pool table and for the guests.
This historic inn is furnished with antiques, and
the delicious gourmet breakfast is served on silver
from the innkeeper's private collection. A stay here
is a delightful trip back in time.

Everything
about the Martine Inn lends itself to a romantic getaway,
from the ambiance of the inn, the care of the staff,
the spectacular view, the delicious breakfast and
evening repast to the charming room decor. You will
love it and want to return again and again.

and Relaxing" review
We've
been to the Martine Inn before three years ago and
loved it! Did not stay in a ocean view that time but
it was cozy. But this time we went and stayed at the
Victoriana room and this time enjoyed the view of
the ocean. If you’re a couple looking for a
nice stay with fantastic views and amazing rooms you
should really stay here and not look at any other
b and b. We will be back a third time!

The staff was great and consistent. Breakfast (FRESH
squeezed orange juice, omelete, soufflé, sausage)
and evening appetizers (fresh
fruit tray, antipasto tray and warm brie, wine, cookies,
coffee) were very good. Hosted party on Friday night,
billiard table, wi-fi, house PC, daily newspaper,
aforementioned views of the otters in the bay. We
met a number a nice people at breakfast and we all
hung out. We decided not to go the the Concours at
Pebble Beach due the the cost ($350 for a pair for
gen'l admission) well one of the guests gave us an
extra ticket, seeing that, another guest gave us a
pass and a ride to the Concours. The price was the
best around by far.

We stayed in Marie's Room. Was lovely and the view
of the ocean was awesome. The rocker that faced the
view was so relaxing. The food was delightful and
filling. Will go back again. We felt like we were
totally away from all the world's troubles.

We spent two wonderful nights at this inn. We live
in the mountains, so it was especially nice to go
to the sea. Our room was beautifully appointed and
the inn is filled with lovely antiques and art. As
the inn is situated directly across from the Monterey
Bay, we enjoyed fabulous breakfasts and wine tasting
while watching the otters and birds play and swim
about. The innkeepers and staff were most friendly
and helpful.

review
The
Martine Inn is the best B & B in the area and
probably the best one we've ever stayed at. It is
romantic and the attention to detail is amazing. Don
and his family make you feel part of their family.
We love this inn and look forward to returning over
and over again.

This was our second visit to the Martine Inn. We have
stayed in two different rooms, each having their own
charm. It is a stately home that we are free to explore.
We enjoy the evening wine and appetizers in the dining
room overlooking Monterey Bay. It is wonderful that
they use the china and serving pieces from the original
owner of the home. There was a time range for breakfast,
which was nice for our schedule. The food is always
good. We can just walk across the street to a trail
that goes along the bay and takes us to the main part
of Monterey. We always have an enjoyable time there.

My wife and I, like so many in this day and age, find
ourselves concerned about our financial future. As
a last splurge before tightening our wallets, we decided
to save the expense of flying somewhere, and take
a romantic getaway to nearby Pacific Grove. Ultimately,
we
found ourselves attracted to the Martine Inn. We both
absolutely loved our stay. The service was impeccable,
both professional and personable, from the very first
phone inquiry until the time of our departure. For
example, upon our arrival, we were provided with a
tour of the grounds, accompanied by delightful bits
of history regarding the property including various
antiques adorning the individualized, unique rooms
throughout the inn. Suffice it to say, we look forward
to visiting again one day and highly recommend this
establishment for anyone seeking a relaxing, intimate
getaway walking distance from Lover's Point and Cannery
Row.

Ocean Views" review
My stay at Martine Inn was an enjoyable
one, and I especially enjoyed the magnificent views
of the ocean I was able to see from my room (Marie's
Room) and while breakfasting. The hospitality at the
inn is superb, the location is excellent, and evening
appetizers and breakfast are outstanding.

Traveler Review ~ Trip Advisor from Sheffield
We found the Martine very easily and were impressed
at its location, across from the sea and a colony
of harbour seals and a few minutes walk from the aquarium
and Cannery Row. The
house and grounds were well maintained, we certainly
didn't notice any smells, cobwebs, old worn carpets
or lack of housekeeping standards.
We
were treated to a tour of the house, shown where the
free fruit and biscuits and coffee were (the biscuits
were gorgeous) and shown to our room (Rolling Oak)
which was clean and tidy. In retrospect we would probably
have gone for a bigger room as we had quite a lot
of luggage but we decided to stay where we were as
we had had a busy day travelling and couldn't be bothered
to re-pack and we had booked the room in the first
place it wasn't that the Martine staff had chosen
the room for us. The log fire was put to good use
after a whale watching trip when we came back to the
house freezing - it lit immediately and soon warmed
us up. The shower was very invigorating and there
was always plenty of hot water and fresh towels. The
small fridge was really useful and the bed was very
comfortable. Its true that the furniture was old and
a bit worn but that is to be expected of antiques
(thats surely the appeal of them). The free paper
waiting outside our bedroom door each morning was
a nice touch.
The
afternoon snacks of wine and nibbles including cheese,
fruit and crudites was very much appreciated and it
was nice to have the opportunity to speak to other
guests
We
found the breakast in the warm dining room which had
a real log fire burning very welcoming and different
to the usual continental breakfast we had elsewhere.
Travelling from England some of the breakfast choices
were unusual i.e. French Toast (which reminded us
on bread and butter pudding) with sausages and fresh
fruit at dusted with icing sugar but we enjoyed eating
it. On the day that my boyfriend didn't fancy the
Monterey Jacks he was given an appropriate alternative.
I'm sure that the Inn would be more than willing to
provide vegetarian and vegan options if they were
given notice. The binoculars were a nice touch as
we were able to watch the harobour seals and sea otters
We
met Mr Martine and found him very friendly and personable,
indeed without exception all the staff were very helpful
and friendly.
Patti and Pete were very helpful in giving us advice
on the best time to visit the aquarium (incidently
you can buy tickets from the Inn which saves waiting
in the extremely long queues), good places to eat
and the best road out of Monterey when we were looking
for Highway One.
We
left for five days travelling on a motorbike and returned
to the Martine for one night before heading for Yosemite.
When we arrived back we were given a warm welcome,
indeed even with hugs from Patti and Anne Ross and
asked where we had been and what we had done and seen.
Patti and Pete suggested we would enjoy seeing the
Feast of Lanterns firework display that evening which
we we unaware of and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
The
free internet access was used by us in keeping a check
on our e-mails and we found Mr Martine's racing memorabilia
really interesting.
When
we left we were given a goody bag containing some
very usefull items including a book containing details
of similar inns throughout America which I thought
was very useful as well as bottled water, some tolietries
and notelets which I thought were a nice touch.

Views "

Loved the afternoon wine and snacks, of course. Very
friendly service, excellent food in a very Victorian
styled inn. We stayed in one of the more affordable
rooms and it was very nice. If you haven't been to
Pacific Grove lately, we highly recommend this inn
and location.
